As you create Opportunities in the Dashboard, you can decide what information you would like to collect from volunteers. You can do so in the Extras section of the Opportunity creation/edit flow under:
- Additional participant Information, or
- Additional Questions
Additional Participant Information
You can select which of the 10 boxes you would like to ask volunteers. For example, in the screenshot above we've selected everything except for "Company Affiliation" and "Need for Transportation".
Note that not all of these fields will be required. Please see below for which questions are required and which are optional:
- Phone Number - REQUIRED
- Middle Name - OPTIONAL
- Date of Birth - REQUIRED
- Mailing Address - REQUIRED
- Company Affiliation - OPTIONAL
- Dietary Restriction - OPTIONAL
- Need for Transportation - OPTIONAL (changed from REQUIRED)
- Language Proficiency - OPTIONAL
- Pronouns - OPTIONAL
- Gender - OPTIONAL
Be aware that due to legal regulations such as COPPA, some of these required fields may be dropped for underage volunteers or made optional. For example, if we know that a participant is under 13 years of age, we will not store the mailing address they enter in the portal even if they fill that field out. If we know that a participant requires parental/guardian consent to attend, mailing address and other fields may also be optionally collected.
You can also collect Participant Demographics and T-shirt sizes. Both of these will be optional for volunteers to answer.
Additional Questions
You may wish to collect some of the above information mandatorily from volunteers, or you may want to ask some different questions of volunteers. The "Additional Questions" section is a great place to do so. Also in the "Extras" section and directly below "Additional Participant Information" you will find "Additional Questions".
