Kindful Integration

Kindful is a CRM used by many nonprofits to manage their donors and fundraising campaigns. Golden's integration with Kindful gives nonprofits a more complete picture of each donor by combining donation history with volunteering history, providing a fuller view of engagement that's a better predictor of future giving.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Golden's integration with Kindful is "one-way." That means Golden sends information to Kindful; Kindful does NOT send information to Golden.

Understanding the complete picture of supporter engagement helps you identify prime prospects for increased giving. If a donor has significantly increased their volunteering over the past year, it's a strong indication they may be ready to increase their financial support as well.

What does the Golden → Kindful integration do?

Golden's integration with Kindful is one-way—Kindful does NOT send information to Golden.

Each time a volunteer completes an opportunity, Golden creates a campaign in Kindful with a title matching the volunteer opportunity. Along with the campaign, a transaction is logged that calculates the cash value of the volunteer's hours and stores it in Kindful as a non-cash donation. Subsequent completions by volunteers for the same opportunity create additional corresponding donation transactions.

How Golden works with Kindful's donor profiles

Golden creates a "contact" in Kindful for every volunteer upon registration or completion. Data also sends when a registration is cancelled.

Here is a view of a contact that was created from a volunteer logging hours in Golden:

Golden uses email to match records—if a contact already exists in Kindful with the same email, the profiles are connected.

Golden populates the following fields in Kindful:

  • Name
  • Email
  • Phone (if set)
  • Gender (if set)
  • Date of birth (if set)
  • Mailing address (if set)

Golden adds 4 custom fields to the Kindful profile in the Personal Information section:

  • Golden Hours Volunteered - Total volunteer hours for this organization
  • Golden Rating - Average volunteer rating
  • Golden Background Check - Shows one of four statuses: "Clear", "Pending", "Failed", or "None"
  • Golden ID - The volunteer's Golden ID for reference

Contacts are linked to Volunteer Opportunities via the "Notes" section (more below), and fields can be edited after data has been imported from Golden.

How Golden translates "Opportunities" to Kindful

Kindful's version of "Volunteer Opportunities" are called "Campaigns."

  • Each Kindful "Campaign" is assigned to a "Fund", which groups campaigns together
  • Every Kindful customer has a default "General" Fund. Unless they create new Funds manually, all Campaigns automatically belong to the "General" Fund
  • For every Opportunity created in Golden, Golden creates a "Campaign" in the "General" Fund
  • Volunteer engagement is marked in each campaign as a dollar amount
  • Golden passes the dollar value of volunteer hours to Campaigns
  • These are recorded as Non-Cash Gifts
  • Golden stores "Golden Hours Volunteered" in the Contact record
  • In the Contact's "Notes" section, Golden records volunteer activity as events:
    • Registration events (when someone signs up)
    • Completion events (when volunteer hours are logged)
    • Cancellation events (when a registration is cancelled)

Pro Tip: Changing the title of the Golden-created campaign in Kindful will cause a new campaign to be created when more hours are completed for that volunteer opportunity.

Common Questions

If I change the title of my Golden-linked Kindful campaign, will it receive data from Golden?

If the campaign title is changed in Kindful, a new Kindful campaign will be created when more hours are completed for the volunteer opportunity.

Can you run analytics on Opportunities in Kindful?

You can use the Campaigns feature, but it's better to do this analysis in Golden.

Can you assign "Campaigns" created automatically by Golden to a specific Fund?

Will new contacts in Kindful include volunteering information from Golden? Will I be able to see past volunteer hours?

Yes! New contacts in Kindful will show total past volunteer hours from Golden in their profile (Golden Hours Volunteered). Additionally, Golden will migrate past volunteer completions as historical "non-cash gifts."

Can I view in Kindful if a donor's volunteer engagement has gone up?

Absolutely! By looking at their "non-cash gift" history, you can track the Contact's volunteering activity. Remember, Golden and Kindful use "non-cash gifts" as a proxy for volunteer hours.

How often does this information get pushed or is it continuous?

Continuous. Once you set up the integration in your Golden Settings menu, the system automatically syncs data going forward.

How do I set up the Integration?

  1. You need to be a Kindful customer already
  2. You need to upgrade your Golden account to Professional
  3. In your Golden Dashboard, go to Settings → Integrations
