Frequently Asked Questions
What happened to my existing Opportunities?
All existing Opportunities have been automatically migrated to the new system. Public Opportunities remain public with open accessibility. Private Opportunities have been converted based on their previous settings to maintain the same behavior.
Will my Participants notice any changes?
Your Participants will not notice any changes to how existing Opportunities work. The viewing and registration experience remains the same. The changes simply give you more options when creating or updating Opportunities.
Can I still share Opportunities with a link?
Yes! Unlisted Opportunities work exactly like before—anyone with the link can view and register (if accessibility is open). You can also use Private visibility with the "Hide Share Button" option to control link sharing.
What happens if I change an Opportunity from Public to Private?
Existing registrations are never affected when you change Privacy Settings. The Opportunity simply becomes visible only to the groups you specify going forward. Anyone who already registered keeps their registration.
Can I use Credentials with Visibility and Accessibility?
Yes! Credentials are fully supported in both Visibility and Accessibility settings. You can require Participants to have completed specific Credentials or Credential Packages before they can see or register for an Opportunity. This is perfect for ensuring volunteers have proper training or certifications.
What's the difference between Participant Groups and Affiliations?
Participant Groups are volunteer groups you create in Golden to organize your volunteers (such as "Board Members" or "Youth Volunteers"). Affiliations are Organizations in your Golden network—typically representing schools, companies, or community partners. You can use either or both to control Visibility and Accessibility.
Can I make an Opportunity visible to everyone but only let certain people register?
Yes! This is one of the new capabilities. Set Visibility to Public and Accessibility to Restricted. Everyone will be able to see the Opportunity and understand what's required, but only Participants meeting your criteria can actually register.
