Why Are Opportunity Pictures Getting Cropped?

Images in the Volunteer Portal may appear cropped due to the responsive design of the website. The portal automatically adjusts to fit different screen sizes and devices, which can sometimes result in the edges of images being trimmed to optimize the viewing experience.

Image Best Practices

To ensure your opportunity images display properly across all devices, we recommend the following:

Image Specifications:

  • Use horizontal (landscape) orientation
  • Use a 16:9 aspect ratio for best results
  • Keep file sizes under 5MB for optimal loading performance

Design Tips:

  • Center your focal point: Place the most important part of your image in the center, as the edges may be cropped on different screen sizes
  • Add borders for critical text: If your image includes important text or details near the edges, consider adding a border around your original photo to create a buffer zone. This helps ensure critical information remains visible after any cropping occurs

The responsive design ensures your images look great whether volunteers are viewing opportunities on a desktop computer, tablet, or mobile phone, but these guidelines will help you get the best results across all platforms.
