Salesforce Integration Update: Introducing Gen 2 Packaging (2026)

We're rolling out a foundational upgrade to Golden's Salesforce integration: a move from "Gen 1" to "Gen 2" packaging. Here's what's changing, what it means for your org, and what's coming next.

What's changing

Salesforce is retiring its legacy packaging model (Gen 1) in favor of a newer architecture (Gen 2, or "2GP"). Golden's Salesforce integration is making that same move. As of May 15, any new customer installing our Salesforce integration gets Gen 2 (v2.27) directly from the AppExchange.

If you're already integrated, nothing changes automatically: you can stay on your current version indefinitely, or migrate to Gen 2 to unlock new features.

Why it's worth it

Moving to Gen 2 packaging means:

  • Faster, safer updates. Gen 2 supports in-place upgrades and automated dependency checks, so we can deliver security patches and bug fixes with less manual work on your end.
  • More focused releases. Instead of one large, bundled package, Gen 2 lets us ship new capabilities, like upcoming Nonprofit Cloud support, as separate, optional modules rather than folding them into the core package for everyone.
  • More rigorous engineering. Gen 2 is built on version-controlled, continuously tested infrastructure, and it goes through a more streamlined Salesforce security review, meaning security patches and new integrations reach you faster.

To be clear: this is a packaging change, not a re-platforming. Your schema, bi-directional sync, field mappings, NPSP support, Lightning app, and permission sets all stay exactly the same.

What's new in v2.27: the guestOf field

Gen 2 (v2.27) introduces a new guestOf field on the Registration object, which captures when one participant registers on behalf of another as their guest. Once set up in Salesforce, this enables:

  • Host/guest reporting
  • Group-attendance workflows
  • Accurate hours and credit attribution when one participant brings others along

A couple of notes: this feature requires some setup in Salesforce to take effect, and it only applies going forward. Existing completed registrations won't be backfilled retroactively.

If you're already integrated

You're not required to do anything. Your current Gen 1 package will keep working, and we haven't set an end-of-life date for it.

If you'd like to move to Gen 2 to take advantage of guestOf and future modular features, migration is a short, guided process. Reach out to your Client Strategy Lead and we'll walk you through it.

One thing to plan around: future incremental version upgrades to the integration will require moving to Gen 2 first, so if you anticipate wanting new features down the line, it's worth migrating sooner rather than later.

What's next: native Nonprofit Cloud support

We're also building native support for Salesforce Nonprofit Cloud, delivered as a separate extension package on top of Gen 2. This will let Golden's data sync directly into Nonprofit Cloud's native volunteer-management objects (Volunteer Project, Volunteer Job, Volunteer Shift, and Volunteer Hours), so Golden can serve as your participant-acquisition and show-up engine while Nonprofit Cloud handles your broader nonprofit data model, reporting, and AI features.

A quick clarification: Nonprofit Cloud is a distinct Salesforce product from NPSP (Nonprofit Success Pack). If you're on NPSP today, there's nothing you need to do unless you're actively planning a move to Nonprofit Cloud.
