Using the Insights Tab
The Insights tab is your go-to destination for understanding volunteer engagement, tracking program outcomes, and generating reports — all from one place. Whether you're preparing for a board presentation or just checking in on your program's health, Insights has you covered.
What Is the Insights Tab?
The Insights tab lives in your Organizer Dashboard and gives you a dynamic, filterable view of your organization's volunteer activity. It displays summary metrics at the top of the screen and lets you slice your data using a variety of filters to zero in on exactly what you need.
Summary Metrics
When you land on the Insights tab, you'll see a set of quick summary numbers in the middle of the screen. These update dynamically as you apply filters and reflect things like:
- Total volunteers
- Total registrations
- Total hours completed
- Estimated value of volunteer time
Filtering Your Data
The power of Insights is in the filters. You can narrow your view by:
- Date Range – Focus on a specific time period
- Opportunity – View data for a single Opportunity
- Opportunity Type – Filter by the type of volunteer experience (e.g., standard, ongoing, fundraiser, etc.)
- Group – Segment by a specific volunteer group
- Company – Filter by company affiliation (great for tracking corporate partners — learn more about company affiliation here)
Filters work together, so you can combine them to get very specific views of your data.
Exporting Your Data
On paid plans, the Insights tab includes an Export Insights button that generates a CSV file — the Registration Data export. This is a granular report that includes:
- Each registration a participant has made for your Opportunities
- Participation outcomes (hours completed, whether they attended or missed, etc.)
- Opportunity and Timeslot details
- Donation information (if applicable)
- Tags associated with each Opportunity
For schools and companies on Professional plans: this export will also show you when your students or employees volunteer with other nonprofits — a powerful tool for annual reporting.
Note: The Export Insights feature is available starting on Community plans and above. It is not available on the Free plan.
Using Insights for Corporate Engagement
If your volunteers have affiliated with a company during registration, the Company filter in Insights is a great way to pull up an engagement snapshot for that organization. This surfaces the same data as filtering by their Group. Use the quick summary numbers for a fast overview, or click Export Insights for the full report.
Using Insights for Group Tracking
The Group filter lets you view engagement data for any Group in your account — whether it's an auto-generated group (like "All Volunteers Who Completed [Opportunity Name]") or a custom group you've built. This is useful for tracking cohorts, teams, or any segment of your participant base over time.
Insights and Deep Influence
Each participant in Golden has a Deep Influence score — a measure of their ability to activate volunteer hours and donations from others they've shared Opportunity links with. While Deep Influence is surfaced most prominently on the Participant Profile, the Insights export helps you understand the broader engagement picture that Deep Influence contributes to.
