What is the Difference Between a Credential and a Package?

Credentials

Credentials are individual onboarding tasks or steps volunteers complete when joining your program. Examples include filling out an application form, uploading documents, completing an interview, or watching a short orientation video.

Packages

Packages make onboarding simpler by combining several credentials into one clear process. For instance, if you're onboarding a volunteer mentor, you might create a package called “Mentor Onboarding,” which groups an application form, interview, and reference checks. This helps volunteers clearly understand what's expected, and it helps you easily manage their progress.

In short:

  • A Credential = one onboarding step.
  • A Package = a collection of several onboarding steps organized into one streamlined process.
